The
gallery welcomes proposals from artists of all disciplines and in any media
except purely video or performance. I am particularly interested in work which
is not only contextual but craft-based, aesthetic and or experiential/sensory;
pieces which engage an audience in complicity and the critical gaze, rather than
overwhelm with pure conceptual value or the ‘shock doctrine’ that seems to
permeate so much of today’s youthful art. Artists who seek to question
space and the psychology of architectural space are particularly welcomed. The shows
generally run for 3-4 weeks with a preview night the night before, entry
thereafter via appointment only. Artists will be responsible for private
insurance of their work, the hang and take down, tools and materials, and
collating a list of personal invitees for the openings. The gallery has an
always-expanding database of private and professional contacts, and extensive
public liability insurance. A full list of terms and conditions is available on
request. There is
a £100 hire fee which includes photographic documentation (delivered on CD),
overheads, usher staff and admin fees. Works can
be offered for sale (subject to a 25% gallery commission). The space is
privately run and only open to the general public via appointment. Please
send proposals of interest, along with an outline of your practice, a short
artist biography and jpegs of current work, and an outline of how you conceive
using the space. The main shed is 10’ by 6’ and the half shed, 5’ by 3’.
Both spaces are weather proof and secure. Viewing
of the gallery space can be arranged prior to submitting a proposal. |
