Work history

1967 - 70 Book editor at Longman (full time)
1971 - 79 Freelance editor and picture researcher for Weidenfeld & Nicolson and also for: Dent, Longman, Ginn, Evans, Sphere and others
1980 - 84 Fiction reader for Penguin and Granada
1983 - 1999 Freelance features journalist
1987 - 89 Co-founder of a writing agency called Wiseguides which produced business literature using direct setting
1988 - 89 British adviser for Houghton Mifflin in development of the software Correct Grammar
1989 - 90 Senior Research Officer for a British Library project at Middlesex Polytechnic leading to the publication of a report on authorship and technology
1995 - 2000 Consultant Fellow on various educational projects on the use of IT in primary and secondary education, in association with the Institute of Education, DfES and Oracle Corporation
1990-2004 Board member of the Authors' Licensing & Collecting Society and  the Copyright Licensing Agency (Chairman 2001-2003)
