My glasslog

Before I take you out of this site to my blog, let me explain why I am entering the strange world of blogging. It started with a record of my year (2004-5) at the International Glass Centre in Brierley Hill. I was logging thought processes and keeping a picture archive. I have continued it to log all my glass activities.

‘Glass pages’ on computer screens intermediates most of our experience of words and pictures. The year gave me time to reflect on what words like ‘transparency’, ‘translucence’, ‘crystal-clear’, ‘vitreous’, ‘opaque’, ‘sparkle’, ‘glisten’ and so on mean both in respect to glass and to everyday life.

I originally wanted to end the year with some ideas for an installation (preferably interactive) in which glass plays a central part. I did achieve this aim, as one of 3 students taking part in the Stourbridge Festival of Performing Arts with a piece I called Comma Separated Values.
